HLAA-WI, Inc is the Wisconsin state association of the national organization, Hearing Loss Association of America, Inc. HLAA-WI exists to further the mission of the parent organization in the state of Wisconsin through state initiatives and collaboration with Wisconsin HLAA chapters.
The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is the nation’s foremost consumer organization representing people with hearing loss. HLAA impacts accessibility, public policy, research, public awareness, and service delivery related to hearing loss on a national and global level. HLAA’s national support network includes an office in the Washington D.C. area, 14 state organizations, and 200 local chapters. The HLAA mission is to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss through information, education, advocacy, and support. HLAA provides cutting edge information to consumers, policy makers, business professionals and family members through our dynamic website, www.hearingloss.org an award-winning publication, Hearing Loss, an online newsletter, ENews, message boards. In addition, we bring consumers and policy makers together to learn about hearing accessibility issues at our national and regional conventions. HLAA-WI, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. Donations to HLAA-WI and to HLAA National are tax deductible as allowed by Wisconsin and Federal law. HLAA-WI does not charge dues. Members of national HLAA who reside in Wisconsin are automatically considered members of HLAA-WI. HLAA-WI is dependent on donations & funds raised by periodic conferences and the Walk4Hearing. HLAA-WI does not have dues. All donations are tax deductible. Please consider supporting HLAA-Wisconsin through donations and participation in our projects. |
HLAA is working to end the stigma associated with hearing loss, & encourages treatment & prevention programs. As a member of HLAA, you support work that benefits a growing population of people with hearing loss. Here are some of the benefits:
HLAA advocates for your rights. We are working on a nationwide hearing aid tax credit, captioning on the Internet, including mobile phones with Internet access, hearing aid insurance coverage, cochlear implant reimbursement, and more. Many existing laws and policies are due to the work of HLAA. HLAA represents you on corporate & government advisory boards, coalitions, educational institutions & non-profit organizations.
Hearing Loss Magazine gives you the latest information about hearing aids, cochlear implants, hearing assistive technology, research and more. Read about people like yourself, see the latest ads for products & services specifically for people with hearin gloss. The magazine is delivered monthly when you are a member of HLAA.
Annual Conventions provide the largest hearing friendly conference in the world with a trade show exhibit hall just for people with hearing loss. Information about the 2012 national HLAA Convention to be held in Providence RI June 21 - 24th can be found at www.hearingloss.org/convention Registration is open, and hotel information is posted on the website. You will also find a schedule of events and keynote speakers.
Webinars are held regularly with renowned experts in the field. Info is available on the national website.
The American Academy of Hearing Loss Support Specialists is an online, self paced training for people who work with people who have hearing loss.

HLAA sponsors a National Walk4Hearing event in several cities throughout the country, in the Spring and in the Fall. This event is a major fund raiser for the organization.
The Wisconsin event will b held in Milwaukee on Saturday, June 9th.
