HLAA-WI President Eloise Schwarz, who was then serving as Secretary of the Governor's Council for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, expresses appreciation to Governor Doyle after he signed SB389 on May 13, 2010. HLAA worked with the Deaf population to support action on the Sign Language Interpreter's Licensure Bill that had been in progress within the Governor's Council for several years. Mary Jane Griffin, Treasurer of HLAA-WI was also at the signing. She is standing just behind Eloise on the left.

Governor Doyle signs the bill that requires insurers to provide insurance coverage to Wisconsin children under age 18 for hearing aids and cochlear implants. Carol Burns, past president of HLAA-WI and well known advocate is just to the right of the girl in red.
The law went into effect in January 2010.
Carol Burns represented HLAA-WI at the bill signing.
Children received signing pens & gave notes of appreciation to the governor
